Damas's Profile
Name: Christopher Williams Birthday: Dec 9, 1987 Gender: Male City: Kingston Country: Jamaica Description: DAMAS Born Christopher Williams, now 23, and monikered as Damas by many, he hopes to bring positive vibration to the music industry.
The upcoming music mogul grew up in areas like Harbour View and Craig Town, where he faced the struggles of life. Damas' life soon changed, as his mother Tancie Henry had to leave him at a tender age to seek employment in a foreign country. Damas was left to grow up with his father who had little or no time for him, due to his demanding job. The young lad was then cared for by his next door neighbour and lifelong friend, Freddy Dread.
While attending Jamaica College, Damas had the privilege of guiding two blind students, Michael 'Askel' Fairman and Ryan Campbell, who both exposed Damas to aspects of music production as they had the music facilities at the Salvation Army School for the Blind.
"I must admit that these two lifelong friends of mine along with Sizzla Kolonji really are my inspiration," he said beaming. Damas' life soon made another turn after his friends were shuffled into other classes. He then had to now research music on his own as he was still a music enthusiast. During his musical pursuit, his neighbour and caregiver Freddy Dread had in his possession the Emperor sound, which had the endorsement of Bounty Killer and many other artistes. This was another exposure for Damas, who met up with many other artistes and producers.
In 2007, as an employee at Digicel, he entered the in-house competition, Digi Idol, where he became the winner and had written various songs for Digicel commercials, which got played all over the Caribbean. Damas was now on his way to taking control of his musical journey. He became friends with Jahnoi Nunez of Flo Factory Productions, who showed him the ropes of the music industry. The music aspirant later recorded his first single as an artiste entitled Jah Love, which got major airplay. He also started his own Internet promotion and was soon known all over Europe through social networking intervention. He then moved on to working with Eight Mile Record Label, releasing Step Up on the Bomb Rush rhythm, which featured the likes of QQ, Erup and Tanto Marijuana. Damas then did more research and created his own record label, Da Musiq 876, with members Jahnoi Nunez and John-Michael Levy where he released his single The Suffering.
Musical Career
With high hopes for his musical career as an artiste and producer, Damas made mention of the recently signed production and distribution deal of Flo Factory and Suncycle Records - a UK-based record label.
"We are very elated about such a deal as we have really worked hard for this and are pleased with the response that we are getting from Europe, and that such an elite record label out of the UK has an interest in us. I must also add that the international and local music arena must be fused in many more ventures like these," Damas said. Under the new record-label deal both Flo Factory and Suncycle Records are in the process of releasing the 'Road of Life' rhythm, which features Damas' single The Road of Life, I Octane's Love Yah, Fyakin's Hard out Deh, Hyah Slyce's Blessings I give thanks Fah and High Flames' With Love. With his musical career, both as an artiste and as a producer, Damas is now awaiting a much bigger break as he brings enriching music both in voice and in production.
